Truffles are a very rare and an expensive delicacy. They grow underground and have to be hunted by specially trained dogs. The largest white truffle ever found in the world and included in the Guinness book of records was in fact discovered by Gianfranco Zigante in Istria.
October is the top season for white truffle hunting and at this time, numerous events are held in Istria offering visitors a chance to taste black and white truffles in various forms and also learn more about this exquisite mushroom.
